PAMELA SUSTAITA
(1993, México City)
Pamela Sustaita’s practice develops at the intersection of the oneiric and the violent, within the duality of existence and the threshold where its boundaries begin to blur, constructing immersive and compulsive worlds situated in the confrontation between the beautiful and the unsettling. Through writing and drawing, she explores the biomimesis of violence in nature, as well as gender, the body, identity, and its fragmentation, positioning herself at the point where reality begins to fracture. Her meticulous and compulsive mark-making unfolds across large-scale surfaces and through expansive drawing practices.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Visual and Plastic Arts from the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado “La Esmeralda.” She has been awarded the Jóvenes Creadores grant from the Sistema de Apoyos a la Creación y Proyectos Culturales (SACPC) twice, in 2019–2020 and 2024–2025.
Her work has been exhibited internationally in Mexico, the United States, Spain, and Japan, including group exhibitions at institutions and spaces such as the Instituto de Artes Gráficas de Oaxaca (IAGO), Oaxaca (2023); the Embassy of Mexico in Japan, Tokyo (2024); Centro de la Imagen, Mexico City (2021); and Courtyard Hiroo, Tokyo (2025). Her solo exhibitions include Kit Gallery, Tokyo (2017); Leimin Gallery, Los Angeles (2018); and La Chispita, Mexico City (2023).
She lives and works in Mexico City.
